Critical Theories Network

Das Critical Theories Network verbindet theoretische Ansätze, in deren Zentrum die kritische Analyse aktueller sozialer, politischer, ökonomischer, juridischer sowie genderspezifischer Fragen steht. Während der Begriff "Kritische Theorie" oftmals allein mit der Frankfurter Schule assoziiert wird, umfasst "Critical Theories" in dem hier gemeinten Sinne das kritische Denken des 18. und 19. Jahrhunderts (Kant, Hegel, Marx, Nietzsche u.a.), die Tradition der Frankfurter Schule sowie gegenwärtige Formen kritischer Theoriebildung im Kontext phänomenologischer, postmarxistischer, diskursanalytischer, poststrukturalistischer und dekonstruktiver Ansätze.

Die Ziele des Critical Theories Network sind die Stärkung und Bündelung von Forschung und Lehre an der Universität Wien im Bereich kritischer Theoriebildung sowie die Etablierung einer gemeinsamen Plattform für Forschungsprojekte und -programme, die sich der Analyse, dem Vergleich und der Bewertung kritischer Traditionsstränge widmen.

Das Netzwerk ist Teil des International Consortium of Critical Theory Programs.

The Critical Theories Network conjoins theoretical approaches that focus on the critical analysis of contemporary issues within society, politics, economy and culture. While often being exclusively associated with the Frankfurt School, the term "critical theory" is taken in a broader sense, encompassing the critical thinking of the 18^th and 19^th centuries (Kant, Hegel, Marx, Nietzsche et al.), the tradition of the Frankfurt School as well as contemporary forms of critical theory formation in the context of post-marxist, phenomenological, discourse-analytical, poststructuralist, and deconstructive approaches.

The aims of the Critical Theories Network are to strengthen and conjoin research and teaching already undertaken at the University of Vienna in the field of critical theories, as well as to provide a platform for research projects and programs that are dedicated to the study, comparison and evaluation of the various critical traditions.

The Critical Theories Network is part of the International Consortium of Critical Theory Programs.
